Mueller now becomes the first female race engineer in the history of Formula 1, a groundbreaking achievement in the history of the sport.
From Aspiring Racer to Engineering Leader
Mueller was drawn to racing early in life. Michael Schumacher was one of the legends who inspired her, and for a time, she even considered becoming a driver herself. But her journey would go another way — a way that would take her to engineering greatness. Mueller’s foundation in motorsports was laid down and cemented with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in automotive engineering at the Technical University of Munich.
She started as an intern at Phoenix Racing and learned how to analyze data and help the driver. From that point on, she rose through the ranks, joining different top-tier racing series like Formula Renault 2.0, WEC, and DTM. She would work alongside teams such as Hero Motorsport, Racing Team Nederland, Algarve Pro Racing, DragonSpeed, ABT Sportsline, and Manthey Racing.
The Haas F1 Journey
Mueller took the ambitious step to join Formula 1 in 2022, joining Haas as a performance engineer. Her work ethic and technical ability were undeniable over three years, and she was promoted to race engineer for the 2025 season. As race engineer, she will work closely with Esteban Ocon, providing real-time strategy advice and managing in-car communication.
Team Principal Ayao Komatsu was full of praise for Mueller’s work ethic and determination:
“She’s a pretty determined character, quite a hard worker. The work ethic she’s got is really, really solid. “With her personality I think she and Esteban will hit it off.”
A Trailblazer in Motorsport
Mueller’s appointment marks a historic step forward for diversity in Formula 1. With the sport ever-evolving, she is paving the way for future female engineers trying to enter into top-tier motorsport jobs. With her mathematical genius and steely determination, Mueller is not just making history — she’s changing the future of F1 engineering.
But the difficult road to success that she took shows that sheer willpower can defeat even the most rigid obstacles when paired with passion and dedication. When she takes her spot on the Haas pit wall in 2025, the world will be watching — and cheering for her with every step on the way.
